Academic Requirements
The system is going to look at your grade first. By the time you apply you should have a Second Class Upper or equivalent. If you have a 2nd Class Lower, do not apply. You will be automatically denied if you apply the system.
What does the word “equivalent” imply for polytechnic graduates? It is equivalent to an Upper Credit. For students who are not from the same university, the GPA required is 3.0/4.0 or 4.0/5.0.
A number of students make the number of mistakes equal to one. They apply before the end of their last term grades. Do not receive your degree until you have the class of degree listed on your official transcript. If you guess your grade right, but it is not, you miss your chance.
Real Example from a Past Applicant
One of the Electrical Engineering students of the final year class, Chidi, applied to Egbin PowerUp last year. He wrote a Second Class Upper, but uploaded a copy of his statement of result without the back page. He had his CGPA on that back page. The recruiter was not able to establish his level of study. He was not nominated.
Following the rejection I assisted him to check his application. The only fault was that the page was missing. A minor scanning mistake shouldn’t be the end of your app!

How to Make Your Application Stand Out
What other guides don’t tell you about is how to make your application stand out. The other guides don’t tell you how to make your application stand out.
Most online guides instruct you to list your courses. That is weak. The Egbin Thermal Power Station is a thermal power station. They employ boilers, steam turbines and generators. State one experiment or project you carried out in class that is relevant to the subject in your personal statement.
Examples
If you’re in Mechanical engineering, it would be “I made a small steam condenser model out of local materials.”
In Computer Science, write “I have written a Python script to monitor the fuel use of a generator.” This demonstrates knowledge of power generation.
A Reality You Must Accept
There is a definite drawback you must endure.
Following all the instructions in this 2026 Egbin PowerUp Internship Programme application guide correctly, may not be enough to secure your internship. Even though there are only 50 positions at Egbin, they receive thousands of applications for those positions. That is the truth.
Do not rely upon one program to provide all the support. Make a couple of other applications for power to other power companies such as Mainstream Energy or Transcorp Power at the same time.
This is a single tool to help you apply.
